Behind the scoring of Josimar Ayarza, Southern Miss beat the University of New Orleans 78-58 in the second game of the South Mississippi Christmas Classic in Gulfport. The Golden Eagle defense held UNO to just 15-56 (26.8%) from the field. Ayarza finished with 16 points. Gary Flowers also contributed another double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. With the win USM, ranked #4 in RPI rankings before the game, improves to 8-1.
The South Mississippi Christmas Classic continues tomorrow in Gulfport. North Florida takes on UNO at 4:30pm and Southern Miss plays Canisius at 7pm.
