Basketball season will be coming to an end over the next few weeks. This season has been tough to watch for both teams. Both teams will need to win their post-season tournaments to reach the NCAA tournament. One has to wonder if there will be wholesale coaching changes after the season.
Baseball will begin their run for another College World Series appearance this weekend. New coach Scott Berry will have his hands full replacing players like Bo Davis, James Ewing, Brian Dozier and Jimmy Ballinger. Junior college transfers are expected to fill the gaps and keep the Golden Eagles in the post-season hunt. If the pitching staff, led by new coach Michael Federico, can come together early, USM will be a dangerous team to face. The Golden Eagles host Northwestern State for a three game series beginning on Friday at Pete Taylor Park.
Softball off to 4-0 start including a win over ranked Florida State. The Golden Eagles return to action this weekend as they host the Southern Miss Mizuno Classic. Visiting teams for the Classic include Alcorn State, Louisiana Tech, Notre Dame and Stephen F. Austin.
