Baseball took two out of three against visiting Northwestern State. Overall, the starting pitching seems to be solid. Todd McInnis pitched a stellar game on Friday, allowing one hit in six innings of work while striking out nine. Scott Copeland allowed two earned runs in six innings of work on Saturday. And Geoffrey Thomas allowed one earned run in a surprise start on Sunday. The bullpen was solid in the first two games, but the young (mostly freshmen) arms were roughed up in Sunday's loss. The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday against visiting Mississippi Valley State at Pete Taylor Park.
The men's and women's basketball teams were both victorious on Saturday evening at the Green House. The Lady Eagles beat visiting Rice 68-60, extending their home winnings streak to five games. They hit the road on Thursday for a game against Tulsa.
Larry Eustachy's team found themselves down at halftime, but staged a furious comeback to beat Central Florida 68-58. The win improved their season record to 16-10 and 6-6 in Conference USA play. The Golden Eagles will host #25 UTEP on Wednesday night at the Green House.
Softball dropped its first game of the season to Notre Dame, but finished the weekend with two wins after beating Alcorn State and Louisiana Tech in the Southern Miss Mizuno Classic.
